Brief Description

The Baliwag North Central School has its original Gabaldon schoolhouses based on the design standards of Architect William E. Parsons for schools between 1907 to 1946. The schoolhouse is a single-story structure with an elevated ground floor, large awning windows, and symmetrical plan and front elevation.

Significance

The Baliuag Elementary School (BES) was established during peacetime (circa 1913) and was divided into two district schools (Baliwag North District and Baliwag South District) in 1968. The Baliwag North District School, where the original BES stands, still uses its old Gabaldon schoolhouse. The Gabaldon schoolhouse is a relevant architectural design as it was the product of the Americans’ contribution of providing an organized system of education in the Philippines through Act Number 1801. Also known as the Gabaldon Act of 1907 authored by IsauroGabaldon, this facilitated the construction of public school buildings around the country following Arch. William Parsons’s recommended design standards.
