Brief Description

An official marker was installed by the Philippine Historical Committee on February 24, 1953. The marker is located at the front yard of the old ancestral house of Mariano Ponce which was burned down earlier.

The Museo ni Mariano Ponce will be built in this complex and will be opened by next year.

Significance

The marker was installed to indicate the birthplace of Mariano Ponce. Ponce, a hero and patriot, was a propagandista who co-founded La Solidaridad. Together with Jose Rizal and Marcelo H. del Pilar, they are the so-called Triumvirate of the Filipino reformers in Europe. The ancestral house is where Ponce was born and lived most of his life when he was in the Philippines. This was also where his wife and children lived.
