Brief Description

One of the oldest existing bahay na bato in the town owned by the Rustia family. It is believed that the foundation of the structure with most of its interior and architectural details has not been changed or altered. At present, the ground floor of the house is occupied by tenants using it as a commercial space.

The Bahay na Bato, as the name suggests, was formerly a bahay na bato structure now converted into a multipurpose hall of the university. Its foundation and exterior shell remained intact.

Significance

As one of the oldest houses built during the Spanish period and located at the center of the town, the structure bore witness to many of the historical events that happened in Baliwag. It is also a good example of the bahay na bato as a vernacular architecture and its period style.

The Bahay na Bato is a century-old house that served as the first classrooms for the Baliuag Institute (now Baliuag University) in the 1920s. The house had four to five classrooms inside then. Baliuag University is one of the first schools in Baliwag founded in 1925. The Bahay na Bato is the only existing structure of the Baliuag University that remains today.
