Brief Description


The official marker dedicated to Dr. Joaquin Gonzalez was installed by the National Historical Institute in circa 1982 along Dr. Gonzalez Street (the name of the street was named after him). The marker’s location is believed to be in front of where his house and clinic used to stand.


Significance


Dr. Joaquin Gonzalez is another important historical figure from Baliwag. He was a revolutionary and the first Filipino medical doctor. Born on July 22, 1853, Gonzalez was the first rector of the Universidad Cientifico-Literaria de Filipinas which was the first Philippine state university (which later will be the University of the Philippines) during the Revolutionary Government headed by Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo. He was one of the members of the committee that drafted the Malolos Constitution.
