Significance
Antonino Buenaventura was born on May 4, 1904. He is one of the sons of Lucino Buenaventura to whom he received his early trainings in music. He received his diploma in Music, major in science and composition at the University of the Philippines Conservatory of Music in 1932.
A genius in music, he was conferred as National Artist for Music in 1988 for his contributions in Philippine music especially his researches with folk music that led to its promotion and re-invention. He re-established after the war the Philippine Army Band (formerly the Philippine Constabulary Band).
