Brief Description


Jose D. Castro created in 1971 an oil on canvas painting depicting the Gonzalez mansion as the Municipal Town Hall before the offices were transferred to the new Municipal Town Hall in Bagong Nayon. The painting is approximately 1 meter high and 1.5 meters wide. The framed painting is currently on display at Baliwag Municipal Library and Museum at the Lumang Munisipyo.


Significance


Jose D. Castro who was originally from Nueva Ecija opened a sign shop in Baliwag where he and his family eventually settled until his death. Castro is a visual artist who became prominent in the art scene with his landscapes and still life paintings.


This specific painting by Castro is significant as it in one of the rare existing depictions of the Old Municipal Hall (Lumang Munisipyo) that shows the original architectural details of the house.
